System to Confer Designation as a Startup Launched at HU

Companies that will grow and develop along with the University as part of the broader startup ecosystem at HU are eligible to apply for designation as having been launched at HU.
The eight application requirements are presented below.
Companies that are deemed to meet the requirements during our review process will receive a certificate and official logo.

Application & Certification Process

We confer the designation of “Certified HU Startup Company” upon companies that receive our certification.

Application Requirements

1. A company exploiting intellectual property rights (as set forth in Article 3 Paragraph 2 of the National University Corporation Hokkaido University Institute for the Promotion of Business-Regional Collaboration Regulations [HU Doc. No. 33 of 2015]) owned by Hokkaido University, or by Hokkaido University staff, faculty or students


2. A company exploiting research results or technology, etc. obtained at or acquired by Hokkaido University
3. A company that, within five years from the date of its establishment, conducted joint research with Hokkaido University aimed at commercializing technology possessed by the company 
4. A company that, within five years from the date of its establishment, received a technology transfer or tangible research and development results from Hokkaido University for the purpose of maintaining or developing its existing business
5. A company that had a Hokkaido University staff member, faculty member, or student as a founder or director or in an equivalent role as of its founding, and at which said person continues to have their post
6. A company that had, as of its founding, a former Hokkaido University staff member, faculty member, or student who had left their post, graduated, or completed their course within the past year, as a founder or director or in an equivalent role, and at which said person continues to have their post (and only if said person did not obtain other employment prior to the establishment of the company) 
7. A company that was established with support, such as investment or loaned facilities, from Hokkaido University
8. A company deemed by the University President to be equivalent to those in the preceding items
